Simple New Year's Eve Menu That Is Hassle Free!

 Tonight is New Year's Eve, which caps off the business of the holiday season. Most of us are worn out, tired, and downright sick of the holidays, but that doesn't mean that we can't throw a great bash that is stress free. Here's my ideas for a perfect New Year's Eve party menu that is delicious but won't be a lot of work.

1.) Make a cheese ball. All you need is cream cheese (8 oz. pack) and cheese (about 1/2 a cup) to make the ball (just mix it with your hands) then coat it with chili powder  and your cheese ball is ready in a matter of minutes.
2.) Another great appetizer is pig in a blanket. This classic is easy to make and so good. You can even turn up the volume by serving various condiments for your guests to dip their pigs in a blanket in.
3.) Order pizza. A great main dish, go to your local pizza joint and pick up a couple of pies to get your party started off on the right foot.
4.) Serve hummus from the store with some crackers for a great side dish.
5.) And last but not least, make sure you have champagne for that midnight toast. If you don't drink alcohol or you want your kids to be able to partake in the festivities, buy Martinelli's sparkling cider instead.

So there you have it. A great and simple New Year's Eve menu to ring in 2014. Enjoy and  have a happy and healthy New Year.

 

The Female Year In Review: What 2013 Was Like For Women's Rights

   Yesterday, I brought you what 2013 was like for the GLBT community, but today I thought I would bring you what this past year has been like for women. While the GLBT community saw strides this past year, women have seen some hurdles. One of the biggest stories of the year that I feel needs to be addressed is the epidemic of rape that has gone on this year. This epidemic came to the forefront of the news when a woman died after being raped on a bus in India. I hope that 2014 will see a worldwide campaign to fight this tragic epidemic that affects women and girls worldwide.
    Another big piece of news that affects women came this year as more states decided to put more and more restrictions on abortions. These states, mostly in the South, made it mandatory for women to get sonograms before getting abortions. Others saw the date for when a woman can have an abortion being made earlier and earlier. While some praised these new laws, other women bemoaned having more restrictions on when they can have an abortion.
     Next up, we saw rumors that Hillary Clinton, the woman of women, may be running for President in 2016. Though she has neither confirmed or denied whether she's going to take another run for the White House, 2014 may just be the year that she makes a decision. Who knows? We may just see her as President in a couple of years.
       This past year has also given us some stories about women's body issues that are more divisive than most years. From "The Real Housewives" bickering with each other to "Fit Mom" and her opponents going at it, 2013 was a year where the stereotype of women attacking each other about their bodies, ideas, and opionions seemed to be amplified by the media. I know this may seem like an empty wish, but I hope 2014 will see women more united than ever when it comes to realizing that everyone is beautiful and bickering helps nothing.
        Even though it seems like women's rights may have taken a few hits this year, the good news is we that things can change. Hopefully 2014 will see the income gap worldwide between men and women decrease, the rape epidemic come to an end, and more women take leadership positions worldwide. If this happens, who knows, 2014 may just be the best year for women's rights that we've seen in a while.

The Big Gay Year In Review: What 2013 Was Like For The GLBT Community

 As the year comes to an end, I thought it would be a great time to reflect on the advances for GLBT rights that we saw in 2013 in my "Big Gay Year In Review" and to reflect on where we have to go in 2014. Let's start off with some great news, as eight states legalized gay marriage this year. Most recently, Utah, a state many thought would be the last to legalize gay marriage, legalized gay marriage last week. Additionally, The Supreme Court ruled this June that the Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional, allowing the government to recognize gay and lesbian marriages on a federal level.

   Meanwhile, we in the U.S. still have a ways to go as ENDA, which would prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation in the workplace, still has not been passed into law. It's awkward to me how there's nearly as many states where you can be fired for being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender than there are states that have gay marriage. Additionally, there have been several attacks on GLBT people from homophobic people, which proves to me that legalizing gay marriage is just a starting point in getting our rights. So, in 2014, it would be nice to see ENDA passed and a broad campaign that addressed how we need to end hate and hate crimes in this country.
    Over in Europe, the GLBT community there has had a mixed bag in 2013. The UK is scheduled to get gay marriage next year, but the biggest story to come from Europe is one that shows that we still have a long way to go in gaining equality. If you watch the news, you know that I'm talking about Russia, where the government passed a law barring gay propaganda. This, in turn, led to a surge in hate crimes and gay murders. Meanwhile, some around the world did not help the cause, as they supported the upcoming winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, a former gay mecca that has been decimated by the anti-gay laws passed in Russia. Hopefully, 2014 will see Russia's anti-gay laws come to an end.
     While, Russia may have digressed when it comes to gay rights, they aren't the only ones. India made headlines recently when the Supreme Court in that country as they made gay sex illegal, overturning a law that was passed in 2009. Politicians in that country have vowed to overturn the law, but who knows where that will turn out? Hopefully, we will see India's politicians do good and overturn the Supreme Court's ruling in the upcoming year.

      This year has also been one of the best for gay visibility as many celebrities have come out of the closet. Notably, Olympian Tom Daley and NBA player Jason Collins, both made headlines when they came out as GLBT. Other prominent figures to come out as GLBT this past year are Chelsea Manning, Matt Dallas, Brian Boitano, and, most recently Robin Roberts. Hopefully, 2014 will see more celebrities coming out and representing as gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender.
         So, there you have it folks, a brief synopsis of the big gay year that was 2013. As a community, I would say that we made tremendous strides, but that we have a far way to go. Who knows? Maybe when I do my 2014 year in review gay marriage will be legal nationwide. Even if it isn't though, it is these small steps that make big impacts on the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and there families. After all, I'm sure the folks at Stonewall had no clue the movement that they would create, and they would be pleasantly surprised to see where we are at today. So, to all of you out there, I wish you a great 2014 that is happy, healthy, and successful for you and yours, and here's to 2013, a year that brought so many momentous occasions for us to look back upon in joy as we enter a new year.

Robin Roberts, GMA Anchor And Cancer Survivor, Acknowledges She's Gay

   Today, Robin Roberts acknowledged the fact that she was gay while thanking the people in her life who have helped her beat cancer for the last year. While Roberts thanked her friends and family, she also thanked her girlfriend of ten years, Amber. The news is the first time that Roberts, an anchor for "Good Morning America" on ABC, has addressed being gay even though she has log been out to her friends, family, and coworkers. Congratulations Robin!

Saturday Straight Talk: My Problem With The HIV Equal Campaign

        If you guys haven't heard, there's a new campaign out to end the stigma that people who have HIV and AIDS suffer. It's called HIV Equal. In the campaign stars like Jack Mackenroth of "Project Runway", Broadway star Nick Adams, and Congressman Chris Hines are shown with an equal symbol somewhere on their bodies to represent that whether they are positive or negative, they are all equal. Through lessening the stigma of HIV, the creators of the campaign hope to make it less of a deal for folks to go out and get tested. While I believe no one should be discriminated against due to their HIV status, I feel that the campaign sends a misleading message to young people out there that neglects to talk about how to prevent oneself from contracting HIV. Furthermore, I feel that people need to realize that when it comes to choosing who to have sex with, it does matter what the other person's HIV status is so that they know what they may be getting into if their partner is positive, and the "HIV Equal" campaign fails to address these concerns by implying that HIV status, even of those who you may choose to have sex with, doesn't matter because everyone is equal.
          If the "HIV Equal" campaign would also focus on teaching young men and women to protect themselves through the use of condoms, spermicidal lubes, and all that other fun stuff they have out there to lessen one's chance of contracting HIV, I would be all on board. They are not though. Instead, they are getting pretty people to take pretty pictures that give the false sense that one's sexual behaviors don't matter because we are all "HIV equal". I know it may sound harsh, but I feel that this campaign fails to deliver any real substance. In fact, I don't even feel that it really feels to really show that we are HIV equal because there are no messages in the images that show the stigma that people with HIV face, and I find it hard to find the message to go out and get tested anywhere in the campaign's images. In the end, I understand that the people behind this campaign have good intentions, and I respect what they are trying to do. I just think that they need to have a more rounded and solid message when it comes to their vision of the world being "HIV equal", and that's my "Saturday Straight Talk".

A&E Lifts Phil Robertson's Suspension, Starts Taping With Whole Robertson Family

   Yesterday, A&E stated that they had started taping the new season of "Duck Dynasty", and that Phil Robertson is back in. The network, which suspended Robertson after he made some not so savory comments about black and gay rights, has decided that they would rather reap the tremendous profit that "Duck Dynasty" brings the network than can Robertson. While GLAAD has said that they have faced "backlash" over standing up to the anti-gay and anti-black comments, they are not regretting calling for a boycott of the show. In fact, they released a pretty scathing comment to A&E which called them out for valuing profit over human rights.    
      In the meantime, GLBT people are  saying "What the Duck?" and calling for boycotts of A&E and "Duck Dynasty's" sponsors. A&E in return has said that they will air PSA's about inclusion, but I have little faith that any "Duck Dynasty" cast members will make an appearance.  What do you think about this whole ordeal ? Movie Time: "God Loves Uganda" Reveals How American Missionaries Are Partially To Blame For Country's Anti-Gay Laws

      I just saw an interesting documentary trailer that I thought I would share with you. The film is called "God Loves Uganda", and it is about American missionaries and the impact they have on Uganda's social and political climate. It touches on how they rail against premarital sex without teaching people how to be safe when they engage in sex, and it delves into the affect this has on the country. Mainly though, it talks about how American missionaries have been sponsoring laws in the African nation which have led to an anti-gay climate in the country which, in recent years, has caused several bills to surface including one that would include the death sentence for homosexuals. Standing Up To Sexism: Indian PSA Lets Men Know "It's Not OK To Stare Like That"

 Over the last few years, there has been some hideous news to come out of India about women being sexually assaulted in that country. Last year, a woman even died after getting sexually assaulted on a bus. Well, Indian women have said "Enough is enough" in this new PSA where they show men that it isn't cool when they ogle women like objects. I find it does a brilliant job of sending a message to men about how foolish they look when they objectify women, and I hope it helps the ongoing situation in that country and around the world.

Well, apparently somebody wasn't too happy with the service they got at the store because they decided to give a message to the store by pointing the manikins middle finger up in the air as high as it could go. Saturday Straight Talk: Why I Want To See Rebel Wilson, Melissa McCarthy, And Other Plus Size Stars Naked!

    Earlier in the week, I posted an article about Taryn Brumfitt who posted pictures of her realistic post-baby body to the applause of the world. I applauded with the rest of the world, but it got me thinking. Why is it so shocking of us to see a regular woman's body? More so, what about women who are a little curvier than most? The world rarely sees women that are full figured sans clothing, and, when they are, there is often a comedic element that goes along with it.

     I say that's not acceptable. With all the beautiful big girls in the world,there needs to be more representation of their bodies. Personally, I would like to see plus size stars like Melissa McCarthy, Rebel Wilson, and others should show their full glory in films so bigger girls out there know that their bodies are beautiful and nothing to be ashamed of. Also, it would be nice to see them in natural sexual situations that anybody would be in, instead of being used as a joke, to show that plus size individuals are beautiful and have natural, gorgeous sexualities like anybody else.
       After all, there are a large number of girls in America that suffer from body image issues, and they have no one to represent them. These girls often suffer from depression, eating disorders, and body image issues from the sizeism that exist in our world. When plus size stars strip down and bare all it will give these girls someone to relate to, and it will help fight the epidemic of sizeism in our society. All bodies are beautiful, and those who may be a little curvier than most need to know that there bodies are beautiful as well. If anyone has a problem with this, I say,  in the words of Joy Behar, "so what, who cares". Just because something may make you uncomfortable doesn't mean you should hold back plus size people from showing their beautiful, curvy figures to the world.
        So, going forward, I hope that we see more body types represented in film when it comes to nude scenes. I know you may think that this is wishful thinking, but I find that change starts with the individual. So, let every movie studio out there know that you want to see beautiful, full figured women represented as the beautiful, sexual beings that they are, and, who knows, we may just make some change in Hollywood. In doing so, we may even make a change in the world and let every plus size girl out there know that they are beautiful no matter what anyone else says. And that's today's "Saturday Straight Talk".

Utah Gay Marriage Update: Couples Line Up To Get Their Marriage Licenses

 Who thought that Utah would legalize gay marriage today? It's so exciting to find out, and lots of stuff is going on in the state. Here's some of what's going on in the state. Couples got licenses until 7 p.m. in Salt Lake (They had to be in line by five), and they are trying to get the clerks office to stay open throughout the weekend so they can get married. Meanwhile, conservatives are trying to get the ruling overturned. Who knows if they will be successful or not, but in the meantime watch this video of the first gay couple in the state who got married. It's so cute.

Fri-"Gay": Utah Strikes Down Marriage Ban, New Mexico Legalizes Marriage, Brian Boitano Comes Out, And More

  Happy Fri-Gay everyone. And what a week it's been for the GLBT community. First, I'd like to start by congratulating the newest out member of the family "Brian Boitano", who revealed he was gay after he was elected to part of the Presidential delegation to the Sochi Winter Olympics. Congratulations and welcome. It's been a long time coming, but we're still proud of you.
    Next, we just got some great news out of Utah, where a federal judge basically said that it's utterly ridiculous that their is a ban on same-sex nuptials in the state and ruled the ban unconstitutional. This pretty much legalizes gay marriage there, but I'm not getting to excited because who knows what the Mormon church could pull in the meantime? A few states south of Utah, New Mexico legalized gay marriage this week. It was a pretty much expected decision since county after county had been issuing marriage licenses for months.
    Up in Washington, Catholic high school students walked out of class to support a faculty member who was fired for marrying his partner. Other schools in the community are planning walk outs as well, and I commend these students for their good, old-fashioned activism. It is these kids who are going to make the world a better place for everyone when they stand up for hate and intolerance.
              And last but not least, it is Christmas next week, and gay singer Eli Lieb has released a version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" which is  beautiful and understated. Five Public Figures Who Have Come Out Against Phil Robertson's Suspension, Plus An Update On The Future of "Duck Dynasty"

     Ducky Dynasty's Phil Robertson is probably the most talked about man in the country. Ever since making some crude remarks and calling homosexuality "illogical" and "a sin", he has been the talk of America. While many criticize his comments, some famous faces have come out against his suspension citing freedom of speech. Here are five well-known people who want Robertson back on"Duck "Dynasty".

      Don Lemon, an out anchor at CNN, stated that he believed that Robertson should stay on the show and let the audience decide. He did clarify though that he thought that the comments were not in good taste.

 Josh and Anna Duggar, two of the faces of TLC's "19 Kids And Counting" stood up for Robertson on their Facebook page. They pointed out that the suspension violated Robertson's freedom of speech.

Former Vice Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin stated that she is outraged over the suspension of Phil Robertson. She again stated freedom of speech in her arguments for wanting the "Duck Dynasty" star to keep his spot on the show.

And, last but not least, Fox News personality Sean Hannity came out in support of Phil Robertson. Once again quoting freedom of speech as the reason behind his beliefs, he stated Robertson should have never been suspended.

Need To Know: Apollo Theater In London Roof Partially Collapses, Injuring 85

   Theater goers in London got a more dramatic night than they bargained for. Attendees of a production at the Apollo Theater,  a century old building, had their play interrupted when part of the ceiling collapsed. After an intense rescue, everyone was found alive that was buried, but eighty-five people were left injured. Reports say that three are in serious condition. It has also come out that some in attendance thought it was part of the play, and CNN reports that actors were shouting at the people to watch out. I will bring you more information as it becomes available.

Are You "That Woman"?: Judgmental Parent Edition

    Do you have a friend who just can't seem to get it right when it comes to disciplining their kids? Are you appalled at the behaviors of other's kids? Do you often find yourself giving advice to others about child rearing because it seems no one has any darn common sense of how to properly train their kids? Well, I have news for you. You are that "woman" who is nothing but a judgmental parent.

    Look, what other people do with their kids is none of your darn business. If you want to raise kids the way you see fit, that's why you have your own. Oh, and for those who feel this way but don't have any kids, you have no room to speak. You don't know what that hurdle is like until you get their so shut your mouths and keep on moving. In the meantime, for those who do have kids who feel this way, the same message applies to you. Shut your mouth and keep moving.
     Each kid is different, and because your kids might have been angels doesn't mean everyone is going to have the same blessing that you have. Instead of going off the rails and giving a fellow mom a lecture, take time to sympathize with the less fortunate. She is having a rough time, and, if you are judging her, others probably are too. Also, you and other's don't know the background of the child whose behavior you are judging. They may have ADHD or something else like that, and the mom is trying to do her best in raising her child. When you are judging that other woman you are telling her that she is not a good parent.
      That's not easy. Especially when society tells women that if they don't have proper parenting skills, they are less than, and nobody wants to be judged. So, don't play into what society tells women to do, and, instead of harming your fellow woman, give her a helping hand. Tell her about a time that you struggled with disciplining your kids or make her feel like she can tell you anything without having to worry you are going to cast judgement on her. Don't assume that because her child or children have bad behavior that she is a bad parent. After all, my grandmother always said that, and pardon my language, when you assume you make an ass out of you and me.

   The night before Christmas is coming up soon, but no one knows how to get in the Christmas spirit like Andrew Christian.    Christmas is less than a week away, and that means that consumerism is everywhere and anywhere. With all the "give me, give me" this holiday season, I thought it would be nice to put things in perspective. Update: You Won't Be Seeing Phil Robertson Taping "Duck Dynasty" Anytime Soon Over Homophobic Comments

          On Wednesday, the world went haywire that "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson stated he believed that homosexuality was "illogical" and a "sin", but things have now started to get a lot more interesting. A&E has suspended Robertson from filming for the show, and they have not said when he will be back. So, you won't be seeing him on "Duck Dynasty" anytime soon. Rumor had it that he would be leaving the show before all this came to light, so it may just be his way of going out with a bang. In the meantime, let me know what you think. Should We Really Be Surprised "Duck Dynasty" Star Phil Robertson Dislikes Gays?: Answer Is No

      When I woke up this morning, the internet was abuzz that Phil Robertson, star of the popular A&E show "Duck Dynasty", gave an interview with GQ Magazine where he, among other things, stated that being gay is "illogical" and "a sin". GLAAD came out swinging, asking A&E if they supported Robertson's stance on the issue, and the network released a statement form Robertson himself a while ago which said that, while he doesn't hate gays, he still thinks that homosexuality is a sin. Meanwhile, blogs both gay and straight acted as if it was a big deal that Robertson made the comments because, after all, he has a hit TV show. The fact of the matter is though, that anyone who is familiar with the show should have expected something like this to come out long ago.

    Anyone who watches the show know that it chronicles the lives of a family full of redneck millionaires from West Monroe, Louisiana. While they spend most of their time duck hunting and making duck calls, a large amount of the time is spent covering the families religious lives. Robertson apparently had a come to Jesus moment four decades ago, and now he is deep in his faith. Watching the show, it is obvious that they are of some sort of Southern Baptist/Evangelical, and the fact that they live in a very homophobic place, it should come as no surprise that part of their faith is a deep belief in the "Adam and Eve, Not Adam and Steve" diatribe.
   
    Besides their faith and geographic location, I can pretty much tell by looking at them that they aren't going to be down with the gays. After all, (and I don't mean to stereotype) there aren't that many big-bearded camouflage-wearing rednecks who love gays. It's just a fact of life. That's why, when the news struck, it was no surprise to me that they held such beliefs.
     
      But even if it was not a bit shocking to me, I believe that Robertson's comments won't affect the ratings of the show due to the show's massive following. So I feel that, we, as a community need to be ready to combat the hatred of Robertson and his unkempt clan. We need to make it known that all Christians, or rednecks for that matter, aren't like Robertson, and that what he is saying, while it may be disguised as love, is nothing but hate-mongering. In the meantime, I suggest we all boycott the show and throw our support behind the GLBT friendly and self-proclaimed redneck "Honey Boo Boo" family when it airs its new season in January.

Countdown To Christmas: Holiday Decorating 101

 Christmas is eight days away.For me, this sort of came out of nowhere and blindsided me, and I had to get busy and get my decorating done. Here's pics of what I did. Hope you like. As you can see, keep it simple. That's my tip or holiday decorating. There's enough going on this season, that making things complicated will just make your life harder.

Keep some tradition and hand stockings by your chimney this holiday season.

I love a nativity. I put lights up around this one when all was said and done. Even if one's not religious, I find it to add a simple elegance to any house. 

Be creative and put a wreath on something besides a door. It makes the house more festive.

Recipe Day: Sweet, Simplicity Chicken and Dumplings

Flat dumplings before being rolled out. 

   This is just my opinion. Chicken and dumplings are the bomb! The southern classic is great to make this time of year when the weather is cool, and you want to give your stomach something warm to keep it happy. Many people freak out thinking that it's just too darn daunting to make. Well, have I got new for them.Chicken and dumplings are easy to make, and, surprisingly, you can get them done in a jiffy. Here's how I make them.
   First off, you're going to take some flour. How much you ask? Well, that depends on  how many dumplings you make. I usually take about six to ten heaping tablespoons of flour. Next, add about a teaspoon of salt.Then you want to take some Crisco shortening and plop that baby down into the flour. I usually use around three tablespoons full (I am saying usually because it's cooking, and you can use less or more.) Then you want to take water and put it in the dough and Crisco.

      With the water, you want to ad little and little until it has the consistency of a dough that's a little moist. This usually constitutes about half a cup. Take your hands and mix the ingredients together. Spoons are okay, but it's just not as fun.  As I said before, you want to adjust your ingredients until you get a dough that is a bit moist. Once mixed, your dumpling dough is ready. It's that simple. All you have to do is form it into a ball if you like round dumplings, or flatten the dough with a rolling pin on a floured and cut it into squares if you like slick dumplings. Personally, I like the slick dumplings, but that's the Mid-Atlantic in me. Also, rolling out the dumplings can create a small mess (see embarrassing pic above), but who gives a hoot? It's part of what makes cooking fun.

        Now time for the chickens. My grandmother usually puts a chicken in the  pot around noon to get it cooked before dinner time at five, but who has the time for that? Instead, I bake my chicken in a deep pan until it's cooked all the way through, and I collect the juices from the pan. This takes about forty-five minutes and gives me more time to clean, read, or just lollygag around for a bit. After the chicken is finished cooking, I transfer the chicken and the juices into a pot and add water until it is a creamy consistency. Again, I eyeball how much water to use each time.
             Once the broth comes to a boil, you are going to drop the dumplings in and let them cook for about three minutes or until they turn into soft balls or squares of deliciousness. Now all you have to do is grab some bowls, serve up your chicken and dumplings, and you have a delicious meal on your hands. It's a great recipe for any occasion, and it will have your friends and families in awe of your culinary genius. Hope you like this recipe. Thanks for reading and happy eating.
       

Saturday Straight Talk: Transgender Discrimination And The Bruce Jenner Sex-Change Rumors

    The media loves a great story that they know will have people talking. From Kelly Clarkson's heartbreak to  (the so-called tragedy) that Jennifer Aniston is allegedly going to be raising a baby by herself, the media loves to give America people to pity and/or gawk at. Unfortunately, this oftentimes means demeaning the lives of people or communities that such stories represent. Just look at how bad the media is making single mothers out to be with the whole Aniston baby tabloid frenzy. Recently, they are doing a disservice to one community in particular that, until now, hasn't been given much coverage in the tabloids, transgender men and women.

    Since Kim Kardashian's parents, Bruce Jenner and Kris Kardashian, announced their divorce, the tabloids have been filled with stories that Bruce Jenner is a transgender woman. These rumors were ignited even more so earlier this week when TMZ learned that Bruce Jenner had consulted with a plastic surgeon to have his atom's apple shaved. The media jumped on this piece of information as more and more reason to suspect that Bruce Jenner was in the process of undergoing gender reassignment surgery. Even gay blogs speculated whether Bruce was in the process of transitioning. While they took a respectful approach to the topic, other media outlets turned Bruce Jenner, and the topic of being transgender, into a freak show that America could gawk at.
      Transgender men and women have to deal with  having to worry about whether others are going to see them as "others" every day of their lives, and the media is now perpetuating this idea that being transgender is something that Americans can gawk at free of consequence. Just look at how big of a deal the media made of Chaz Bono's transition from female to male, and the stories they told about how it was "tearing Cher's family apart". While I'm sure, like most parents of transgender children, it took some time to adjust to her son's transition, the fact of the matter is that the media spread lies about the situation. When all was said and done, this did a disservice to the transgender community because young transgender kids may be less likely to tell their parents about themselves because they may be swayed by the tabloids to think that it too may tear their family apart.

        Similar things are happening with the Bruce Jenner sex-change saga. They are making it look like, IF Bruce Jenner is transgender, that he is the reason for all the family problems. When, Bruce Jenner hasn't even said whether or not he is transgender, and we all know that more than one thing leads to two people calling it quits. The tabloids are also making it seem like the whole issue of whether or not Bruce Jenner is transgender is a sort of game that Americans can play to kill time in their dull, day to day lives. The reality is though, making someone's true gender into a game that America can play while simultaneously mocking the issue around transgender issues, will have a lasting affect on the way Americans see transgender people. In the end, it will just give uneducated Americans reason to discriminate against transgender individuals because, after all, the tabloids are teaching America that being transgender is not a valid way of living because. Instead, it's just another invalid alternative lifestyle that can be turned into media fodder for America (and the world) to eat up, and, when all is said and done, a game America can play to guess who is and who isn't.
       I say all of this knowing that the media is not going to stop in their irresponsible coverage of transgender individuals anytime soon. The only way that they will be more responsible in covering transgender issues is if we stand up and say that we won't tolerate discrimination and irresponsible coverage against transgender individuals in our media. We must do this by writing letters to the editor, standing up to this behavior on social media, and doing whatever else we can to fight this intolerance. After all, if we stay silent, we are aiding the media in their degradation of transgender men and women. Because, while we might think it is just tongue-in-cheek talk about Bruce Jenner now, this kind of talk could affect the way every transgender individual in the world is viewed if we let this media sensationalism become the dominant way that transgender individuals are portrayed in the media. So, on this Saturday, I am asking you to do something, and stand up to transphobia in any way possible.

Update: Shooter In Colorado Is Dead, Apparently Of Suicide, Second Suspect Still Possible

      The shooter who injured two in Colorado apparently took his own life police say. CNN is reporting that police may be looking for a second suspect.  A school shooting is apparently going on Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado. The shooter is still believed to be in the school. Authorities are still investigating. Beyonce Surprises Fan For The Holidays, Releases Album Same Day It Was Announced

   Beyonce had a great early Christmas present for her fans, a brand new album. Instead of releasing the album the traditional way, she made videos to go with the songs.    Okay. This is a little off topic for the blog, but this story I read is really pissing me off (P.S. excuse my language as I write). So, there was this kid in Texas named Ethan Couch. He got drunk one night and went out driving. During his night of thrills, he got into an accident, and four people lost their lives. Down in Texas, he was handed his sentence earlier this week. He didn't get a harsh sentence. In fact, he didn't even get jail time.
   Ethan Couch, who murdered four people,  got probation. He's not even going to jail for a single night. While the man who lost his wife and daughter has to live every day trapped in a life without his family, Ethan Couch gets to go out and live his life care free. It's sickening, just sickening, and it shows the inequality that goes on in this country. Why do I say inequality though?
    Well, the reason that Ethan Couch got such a light sentence was because he came from wealth. In fact, the defense came up with a b.s. name for it, "affluenza". Apparently, "affluenza" is when kids are spoiled rotten because they have well to do parents, and then they aren't held liable for anything to do. Basically, it's saying that if wealthy kids' parents have too much money and not enough discipline when it comes to their kids, their kids can go rape, murder, and heaven knows what else because, after all, they just don't know any better.
      I know. You are probably thinking the same thing that I am. How can this b.s. logic hold up in a court of law? Well, I don't know how it can, but it did. Hopefully, it won't set any precedent because then, any kid whose parents make a certain income can go around killing and destroying others with less money. It's disgusting to think about, but our society is becoming so unequal for those who have and those who have not that it may just get to that point. So tonight, as you go to bed, have the man who lost his wife and daughter in the crash in your thoughts and prayers and keep your fingers crossed that there aren't other disgusting judges who have such little regard for justice out there ready to spread their warped views about class to the rest of the world.

Cool Dude, Or Plain Rude?: The Debate Over Obama's Selfie At Mandela Funeral

     Politicians flocked to South Africa earlier this week to attend the funeral for civil rights pioneer Nelson Mandela. Among them was President Barack Obama. While there, he sat with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Helle Thorning-Schmidt. The two, along with Thorning-Schmidt's husband, snapped photos together for the memorial service, and this had people asking whether this was appropriate for such a somber event.
     The resounding answer, to me, is NO. The picture taking should have waited after the event was over, or, more appropriately waited until the Obamas and Thorning-Schmidt were in a private place. No one should ever be snapping photos of oneself at a funeral. It's downright rude.
      In defense of Obama though, the body language in his pics looked like he was becoming annoyed because Thorning -Schmidt was the one who wanted to take selfie after selfie. He didn't want to be rude, so he obliged so I find him to be lesser at fault than his picture taking counterpart.  Nevertheless, I find that taking pics at people's funerals is something that should never occur.
