Come And Watch Me Get Married: My Problem With Destination Weddings
(From www.destinationweddingmag.com) |
I'm not condemning all destination weddings. Many are lovely, and it's nice that they treat their guests to a bit of rest and relaxation while celebrating their love. Also, with many states not having gay marriage it may be necessary for GLBT couples to travel to legally tie the knot. My trouble comes when soon to be spouses know that their guests don't have the budget to fly from South Dakota to Hawaii for two days just to watch them tie the knot, but they expect them to come anyway. When these guests don't show up, the couple acts offended, and may even distance themselves from the people who did not attend. These people would have otherwise been more than happy to share in the couple's love, but the cost made it impossible for them to come. This exclusion needs to stop.
Whatever happened to the good old days when couples would just have a few friends and family members come to the courthouse or a local park to watch them get married? It's as if television has turned every person into a "Bridezilla" or "Groomzilla", who thinks that their big day is all about them. In reality, marriage is about loving the person your with and sharing this love with the world. It's not about a trip for you and your significant other that may make your guests suffer for months to come up with the cash to join you. That's what your honeymoon is for! So, if you are planning a big destination wedding, take into account that not everyone has the luxury to travel to England, Hawaii, or Paris. Be considerate and understanding of their needs. If a lot of your guests cannot afford to join you, reconsider. After all, a wedding at home with the people you love will always be better than a destination wedding without your loved ones. I guarantee it.

Watch: Hillary Clinton Gets A Shoe Thrown At Her While In Las Vegas
When it comes to not being original, those who hate Hillary Clinton seem to claim the top prize. They proved this today, when a woman who was very anti-Clinton, sent a shoe flying through the air towards the former first lady. Besides copying off of an Iraqi who did the same thing to George W. Bush ages ago, it was EXTREMELY TASTELESS, rude, and illegal to do to a former First Lady. Clinton managed to handle the incident with class though, as she joked that she would have done a better job with the throw thanks to her days in softball. Watch the crazy woman and Clinton's genius response below. Clinton in 2016, I say!
Sweet Eats: Five Of Portland Oregon's Best Restaurants
As you may know, I live near the Portland, Oregon. When I first came here, one of the things that I loved was the fact that they have so many great restaurants and eateries to satisfy any taste. Here are five that I think are the best. If your ever in Portland and need a place to eat, these are the places to go.
1.) Acadia, located at 1303 NE Fremont Street, is the best place in town to go get great southern cooking. From water served in mason jars to the best oyster po'boys in town, this place serves up New Orleans charm in the Pacific Northwest.
2.) Habib is one of the best places to get great Middle Eastern food here in Portland. They have great gyros, and a happy hour menu that has some other goodies at bargain prices. It is located at 1021 SW Morrison Street.
3.) At number three, we have the upscale Portland City Grill. Located in "Big Pink", Portland's most iconic building, the restaurant provides great food and even greater views of the city. It is a little pricey, so it's not for everybody.
4.) Located on the world's hipster highway, Hawthorne Street, Hawthorne Fish House has great seafood that is affordable and delicious. From fish and chips to oysters, this is the place to go for seafood in the southeast part of the city. It's located at 4343 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.
5.) At number five, we have Marrakesh, which features some of the best North African and Middle Eastern food in the city. What makes this place super special is the atmosphere, as you sit low to the ground and even are treated to live belly dancers on certain nights of the week. Marrakesh is located at 1201 NW 21st Avenue.
These are restaurants that I truly recommend you visit if you ever are in the Portland, OR. area. They all have great food and give a great sense of the diversity that exists here in The City Of Roses. For any other information, each of these restaurants have websites that you can visit.
